Hi, I am
Levi
“We as designers have the power to shape the world and connections between people, technology and our planet.”
As we advance further into the digital age, the role of design has never been more critical. In this context, design is no longer restricted to the creation of physical products but a way of redefining how society engages with technology. Technological systems, from smart homes to digital health platforms, are becoming more complex and embedded in our lives. In this evolving landscape, designer are essential for guiding this complexity in a direction that is understandable, humane and responsible.
Design is the perfect bridge between emerging technologies and human needs. Fast changing technologies like AI need a design approach that is adaptive, able to respond to constant change, and intentional, grounded in values and reflection. Design must consider more than the here and now and should focus on the impact it has socially, ethically and environmentally. It should ask questions like “Should we want this?” to ensure a responsible implementation.
I see designers as system-oriented makers. Instead of designing isolated products, we as designers are increasingly challenged to create ecosystems. Nowadays, a product is rarely used alone, it exists in a web of interactions with other products and services. Designing with this complexity means considering not only how something works, but how it connects, communicates and adapts within a larger system. This requires designers to think holistically, anticipate unintended consequences, and build for adaptability and coherence across touchpoints.
In this, I believe aesthetics are a fundamental part of good design. Aesthetic choices influence how people connect to products, how they feel, and how they express themselves. I believe aesthetics spark joy and desire, powerful drivers of engagement and emotional value.
Ultimately, design is a practice with both opportunity and responsibility. We as designers have the power to shape the world and connections between people, technology and our planet. I wish to contribute to a design culture that takes responsibility and designs for the future.
Vision
“As a system-oriented designer, I am inspired by how thoughtful integration can elevate both usability and emotional connection. ”
Professional Identity
A defining quality of mine is curiosity. I believe that exploring the world and having an open mindset for learning through new experiences is essential to gaining the perspectives needed as a designer. They spark creativity and let me see opportunities where others might see obstacles.
I am a system-oriented designer. Individual products working smoothly together get me excited and I just find it interesting how products become so much more within a system. A great example is the Apple ecosystem. Apple’s products are designed not just as individual devices, but as interconnected experiences. Features like Handoff, AirDrop, and Universal Control allow users to move seamlessly between devices, creating a sense of flow and coherence that goes beyond functionality. What excites me about this is how the value of each product increases through its connection with others. As a system-oriented designer, I am inspired by how thoughtful integration can elevate both usability and emotional connection.
I find the early phases of the design process challenging. These moments are filled with uncertainty, and the lack of direction can feel uncomfortable to me. I sometimes struggle with open exploration, not knowing yet what the outcome might be or whether I’m on the right track. In contrast, I feel much more confident in the later phases when decisions have been made and the goal is clear. I do recognize that the uncertain early stages are essential for creating truly innovative and meaningful designs.
Following from this, one of my strengths is prototyping. My precision and skills in the workshop are key for translating concepts into high-fidelity prototypes. These prototypes are used for testing and able to communicate my concepts in a tangible way.
However, explorative prototyping is something I still want to improve on. Early low-fidelity prototypes challenge assumptions and give feedback, guiding the design process. I do not often use this technique early in the process and assume more on research.
Another thing I am struggling with and still developing is my ability to be as critically reflective as I want to be. I often move too quickly from idea to execution without taking a step back. Reflecting doesn't come naturally to me, but I recognize the importance. I am actively working on becoming more self-aware, learning to question my own steps and decisions.
Since I started why my studies I have shown great improvement in my teamwork. In the beginning I always held back and let others do most of the talking. However, through the years I have become a great leader in a supportive way. I encourage collaboration and try to keep a healthy team dynamic by creating a safe space for everyone’s voice to be heard. At the same time, I value people who are more reflective, who challenge assumptions, or who thrive in the early design stages. I work best in multidisciplinary teams where people bring different strengths, but share a collaborative and open mindset.
In the long term, I want to contribute to the future technological landscape by designing product ecosystems where social and environmental awareness stand central. I want to do this by translating complex ideas into tangible experiences where aesthetics and meaningful interactions are key.
Future
In the future, I want to continue developing myself as a designer through the Industrial Design master’s program at Eindhoven University of Technology. During this time, I hope to go on exchange to the University of Technology Sydney, as its strong focus on technology and realization aligns closely with my own strengths and ambitions. I want to deepen my ability to prototype within complex systems and grow as a reflective, responsible designer. My goal is to shape product ecosystems that are both meaningful and ethical, and to contribute to a design culture that embraces complexity with intention and care.
